Read this word-for-word to your supervisor:
“If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I respectfully request that my union representative, officer or steward be present at this meeting. Without representation present, then… I choose not to participate in this discussion.”
ARE YOU HAVING PROBLEMS AT WORK?
Here’s how you can protect yourself:
- Document what’s been happening. Make a written record of all the events with dates, times, and people present.
- Try to address the problems by having a calm, professional conversation with your manager. Our union can give you support if you need it.
- Keep showing up. Unless your working conditions are unsafe, don’t make any changes to your work schedule. Arrive on time and don’t leave early without authorization.
- Read your contract and try to identify:
- Specific article/s of the contract (or rights or laws) that are being violated
- Factual details of the violation
- Requested remedy
