Meet Your Union Leaders

Jeff Grider

Jeff is a Public Safety Officer and has worked for PCC for 20 years. He is primarily at the Sylvania campus. A typical workday for Jeff includes patrolling, investigating anything he finds unusual, and responding to calls dispatched via radio. Radio calls range from simple door unlocks or vehicle battery jumps to all types of emergencies (police/fire/medical). The opportunity to help people everyday keeps him interested in the work.

Jeff is the President of our union. He hopes in the future that classified employees will have a greater ability to participate in their union, as unions are one of the most democratic organizations a person can be a part of. It’s rare that Jeff has a full day off from both union and PCC work, but when that happens, he finds himself tinkering in the garage or working on things around the house.

Sheryl Keele

Sheryl is the Operations Assistant for the Sylvania Bookstore. She has worked for PCC for 17 years. She welcomes students, faculty, and staff into the store, helps them find what they need, answers questions, and gives directions. Sheryl also trains and supervises casual and student employees, helping them develop customer service skills and succeed in a retail environment. She describes her job as extremely uplifting with a bit of chaos. She loves the diversity and chemistry of PCC students. Sheryl finds it new and fun everyday to watch students grow and achieve, and to play a small part in that.

Sheryl is the Secretary of our union. She was inspired to get involved to “help people, who help other people.” For Sheryl, the college represents opportunity for students, staff, and faculty. She believes we all need a place that welcomes us and supports our dreams. On her days off, she loves to spend time with her cats and lose herself for just a moment in regular life.

Denyse Peterson

Denyse is an Instructional Administrative Assistant with the English Department at Cascade Campus. She has worked at PCC for 19 years. Inspired by seeing students and their drive for knowledge, she assists students, staff, and faculty on the business side of the college, modeling inclusivity and a place of belonging in her work.

Denyse is the VP of Political Action for the union. She appreciates the unity between workers and wants to collaboratively represent those that do the work. On her days off, Denyse likes “reflecting on life and feeling blessed that I am here in my personal space.”

Meryl DePasquale

Meryl is the Senior Office Assistant in the Office of International Student Services. She has worked for PCC for 6 years, and is usually at the Sylvania campus. Meryl leads the front desk team, and makes sure that international students are taken care of at each location. She also has responsibilities with finance for her department and payroll for student employees. She loves how PCC students are open to new ideas and experiences.

Meryl is the VP of Communications for our union. She got involved because she wanted to have a voice in the changes underway at PCC and to help build community for classified employees. She’d like to see a future where PCC is less top-heavy and classified employees have a fair contract. On her time off, she loves to go camping and hiking with her partner and dog, especially on the coast.

Maria Juarez

Maria is an Office Assistant for the Office of Student Conduct & Community Support. She has worked for the college for 21 years and currently works remotely. She wants people to know that, no matter the circumstance, her office is always there to help however they can, and she knows students appreciate the help they offer.

Maria is a grievance officer for our union. She joined because our union had her back when she needed us. She would love to see more classified employees join, so that we can be stronger together. On days off, she sleeps in and relaxes, and also does family stuff with her kids and grandkids.

Juanita Lognion

Juanita is the IT Lead Buyer in Purchasing and has worked for the college for 11 years. She is at the Downtown Center. Juanita’s workday involves assessing responsibilities and priorities to IT and the college, managing email inquiries, facilitating technology reviews for compliance, leading meetings, and creating/negotiating technology related contracts. She used to be a student who began at a community college and needed the same resources that she now strives to help support.

Juanita is the Grievance Chair for our union. She wanted to join the bargaining team as an alternate to ensure that our pay is in step with inflation, our safety is a priority, we have good health benefits, and that everyone at the college follows our contract. Juanita wishes for classified employees to enjoy the benefits of our hard work (by way of appropriate compensation). On her days off, she loves to get out and spend time with her grandchildren.

Sara Lampert

Sara is in a temporary position as Scheduling Coordinator for Academic & Student Affairs Operations at the Southeast campus and loves her job. She has worked for PCC for 14 years and no matter the position, she has always been busy.

Sara is a Grievance Officer for our union. Formally a Lead Custodian, she would like to be a voice for classified employees who are essential on the bargaining team. Sara wishes for a future with less division and more understanding. On her days off, she enjoys crochet and puzzle books.

Lezlie Bugg

Lezlie is an Instructional Administrative Assistant II (IAA2) for the Mathematics department and has worked for the college for 15 years. She is at the Sylvania campus. Lezlie provides the administrative processes her program needs, such as processing payroll, scheduling classes, and greeting and assisting students. While the job can be demanding at times, working with students and faculty brings her a sense of purpose and she loves how hopeful and positive students are about their future, no matter what place they are in their educational journey.

Lezlie is a Sylvania Campus Representative for our union. She wants to do her best to move our contract forward, and to help PCC reach its potential in equity and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff. In her free time, Lezlie enjoys working in her garden, unless it’s raining, and reading the internet.

Scot Brooks

Scot is a Technical Specialist II for IT and has worked for the college for 9 years. He is both remote and at the Sylvania campus. IT work in a large environment like PCC is complex, and not the same as what many of us are familiar with at home. Scot monitors our IT infrastructure for operational status and reports/escalates any issues to appropriate personnel.

Scot is a Sylvania Campus Representative for our union. His desire to have a voice and make a difference motivated him to join the bargaining team. When Scot has a day off, he loves to do nothing at all. His wish for the future is to get happy in life and stay there.

Taylor Gehweiler

Taylor is a Central Distribution Services (CDS) Lead in Facilities Management Services (FMS) and has worked for PCC for 15 years. He is at the CDS Warehouse (located near the Sylvania Campus) and serves the entire district. Taylor manages assets and logistics of the district warehouse in support of the college infrastructure including Financial Services, IT, P&CC, Foundation, Parking, Print Center, Bookstores, FMS and academics.

Taylor is a Sylvania Campus Representative for our union. He sees the bargaining team as an opportunity to advocate directly with management for better working conditions, benefits, and a living wage for all classified staff. When Taylor has free time, he likes to go for a walk in the woods, read a good book, or make some art.

Zahra Mirpourian

Zahra is the Campus Computer Labs Coordinator for Southeast campus. She has been with PCC for 25 years, starting as a student worker, and has worked as a classified employee for the past six years. Through her time at PCC she has learned that students respond well to positive reinforcement, and she loves to motivate them to accomplish more than they think they can.

Zahra is a campus representative for Southeast campus. She says, “Joining unions enables workers to accomplish more than an individual could. We, as a union, can improve conditions in the workplace.” After a busy week, she loves to catch up on her sleep.

Marko Rynard

Marko is a Tech Specialist II with Portland Community College in the IT Infrastructure group, and has worked here for two years. He maintains the telephone servers and hardware, which has him working at all PCC facilities, although his home campus is Cascade. As a self-proclaimed philomath (one who likes to learn new facts and acquire new knowledge), he feels an affinity for our students and wants to be part of a college system that helps them learn the things they need to make their lives more fulfilling.

Marko is a campus representative for Cascade and Swan Island. He believes a union only has strength if people join and participate. He is excited to jump in and help as often as he can. He hopes to see more Classified employees start to take part in their union. Outside of work, Marko likes to spend his time reading; at an outside cafe if the weather is nice. He also said, “Quiero mejorar mi español.”

Briar Schreiber

Briar is a Governance, Risk, and Compliance Specialist in the Information Security Department. She came to PCC three years ago after working in the IT industry for a decade. At first, Briar was at the Southeast campus as a Technology Support Analyst and now she is at Sylvania in her current role. Her job consists of identifying risks posed by hackers, scammers, and online threats to PCC staff and students, then working to make sure those risks are mitigated.

Briar is a site representative at Sylvania campus for the union. She brings past organizing experience with various groups including the IWW and being a collective member at People’s Food Co-op. She is passionate about worker empowerment and got involved with the union to help manifest that. When Briar is not at work or helping with the union she loves to repair old technology like sewing machines, dated game consoles, and 8-bit computers.

Loren Perry

Loren is a Contract Specialist in the Purchasing department. He is the site representative for the Downtown Center. On a typical day, Loren will have a packed day of meetings and purchasing products and/or contracts for the college. On top of working hard for PCC, Loren felt it is time to be of service to our union. When he does have a day off he enjoys playing golf.

Angela Koslofsky

Angela is IAA III for District RD/WR/ENG Program at Rock Creek Campus. She has joined the union as the Rock Creek Site Representative. She says:

“Every day is different in my position. You never really know what the day will bring. It is one of the reasons I enjoy it as much as I do.”

In order to get her job, she needs to know a little of everything PCC related or how to find it if you don’t have an answer.

Allison Irby

Allison is our CLIMB site representative and works as an IAA II for Health and Emergency Professions. Allison spends her days biking through the SE community to work, coffee shops, and the community yoga classes she teaches. She enjoys exploring the life and culture of what Portland has to offer, and is inspired by students who choose to take nontraditional educational paths that work best for them. She got involved with the union to support her colleagues and to help create and maintain a positive working environment.

Christian Martinez Guzman

Christian is a Program Specialist for Student Life and Leadership and they are one of our Sylvania Site Representatives. On a typical day he meets with students to guide them through the projects they’re working on, developing civic leadership programming, and provide support to students who visit the Student Life and Leadership space. They enjoy gaming with their homies, and they’re continuously finding new PCC students to look up to. He joined the EC as it is a powerful in-road for helping others develop a critical consciousness, and he wishes for a future where there is a collective realization that things don’t have to be this way.

Alexandra Stabenow

Alexandra is our VP of Membership, and works at the SE campus as an IAA for the Academic Foundations, Essentials & Gateways Pathway. A typical work day for her is mostly spent in front of a computer: in meetings, reading & sending too many emails, staring at spreadsheets, curating GIFs, coordinating events & projects, herding cats, and other duties as assigned. Outside of the cubicle you may find her looking for snacks, helping lost students, admiring all the cool plants around campus, and/or trying to organize a hallway bowling league with co-workers. Alexandra loves to spend time outside on her days off. Her wish for the future is social equity.

Foxx Hess

Foxx is a Cascade Site Representative, and works at the Cascade campus as an IAA II for Tutoring Services & Co-curricular Support. Their days regularly involve opening the Cascade tutoring center, assisting tutors and front desk staff to serve students throughout the day, and managing payroll, schedules, etc. They wish for more people back on campus, more activities, and a return of a sense of community to campus. They got involved with the union because of the people power.
